Radiant Transit and COVID-19: How Radiant Transit Protects Customers and Staff

As the pandemic surges on, more individuals are staying home in order to lower the risk of contracting coronavirus. This means fewer people are taking public transportation, limiting public transport accessibility. This often leaves individuals dependent on public transportation with few options. This heavily affects individuals with chronic illness and disabilities as well as the elderly. Radiant Transit grants these individuals a safe and reliable option for transport. They go above and beyond the minimum guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) in order to protect their customers and staff.

Prior to loading, Radiant Transit takes the temperatures of all patients to screen for any symptoms of COVID-19. This step is not explicitly required by the CDC, but Radiant Transit makes sure all precautions are taken to protect its passengers. When transporting visibly ill patients, the CDC requires NEMT vehicles to be sanitized before and after shifts. However, because carriers of the virus can be asymptomatic, Radiant Transit cleans all vehicles before and after every patient, regardless of whether or not they are visibly ill.

Radiant Transit utilizes ultraviolet (UV) light-based cleaning to ensure the most hygienic cleaning process possible. UV light-based cleaning uses UV-C light in order to kill the genetic material found in bacteria and viruses, eradicating any trace of viruses like the coronavirus in the vehicles. While in contact with any patient, Radiant Transit’s highly trained drivers wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including face shields, disposable gowns, face masks, and gloves. They even use a negative pressure purification system, which removes particles within an enclosed area, preventing cross-contamination. 

The CDC recommends avoiding transporting “multiple passengers who would not otherwise be riding together on the same route.” Radiant Transit prohibits ridesharing altogether, virtually eliminating any patient or staff’s risk of contracting the virus. This allows customers to come and go without worrying about coming into contact with the virus.
